All warriors have an origin, all legends have a beginning. This one starts with fire and blood... and cold, sharp steel in the morning.

Before the burning of a shattered church, before the sword that would change a world was forged, before the banners of the crusades were raised against the pagan north; a warrior was preparing for his first battle. A young man, trained in the art of war but untested in its bloody crucible, crosses the cold sea to make his first raid. He is sailing with his father, following in the wake of their ancestors before them. They are raiders, they are reavers, they are Viking.

Feel the cold waters beneath the keel, the panicked rush of battle and the first sight of your enemy as you join this young boy who seeks to become a warrior and a man. One day his hands will change the fate of nations, but on this day they will feel the clash of steel and the warm, terrible rush of another man's blood.

One raid to build a warrior, one cut to break a dynasty, one day to change the future.

Steel in the Morning is a prequel to 'The Light Of The North Saga' series and explores the origin story of one of the main characters. It contains no spoilers for the series and can be read at any time, either as a taster to get into the saga, at the end when you crave more insight, or as a mid-way tale to delve into the backstory of a character already known.
